In front of it is a simpler altar-table, flanked by a pulpit on one side and chairs for the priest, deacon, and servers on the other. The back walls are crowded with statues of angels and saints, a crucifix with bright red marking Christ’s wounds, and a Divine Mercy painting.
The High Altar is the lower table in front, technically…the Apse Altar is the second level (higher table-thing with the white on it). The reredos is everything above it. If the modern Altar was not there…the High Altar would have been attached to the front of the reredos.
It would be nice if the “high altar” were simply reconstructed with some space between the altar-table proper and the rest of the structure (reredos, tabernacle, etc.), so that the Mass could be celebrated facing either direction at the same altar.
